Police update on murder investigation after teenager stabbed

A boy and a man arrested on suspicion of murder after the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Peterborough remain in custody on Tuesday (April 14). Emergency services were called at around 7pm on Sunday (April 12) to reports a teenager had been attacked near the Orton Centre.

Cambridgeshire Police say the boy was taken to hospital. He died later on Sunday evening.

A 15-year-old boy and 18-year-old man were arrested following the attack near the Orton Centre in Peterborough on Sunday evening (April 12). Detectives are seeking an extension to their custody time limit from magistrates and the pair remain in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.

A 16-year-old girl from March has been charged with possessing a knife/bladed article in a public place. She is due to appear at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on May 13.

The girl, who was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on conditional bail. A 17-year-old girl from Peterborough who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on conditional bail until July 8.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out at Peterborough City Hospital on Wednesday (April 15). A cordon has now been taken down, but police officers remain in the area today carrying out inquiries. Detectives are continuing to appeal for information.
