What Does the Legacy Patch on LeBron James’ Jersey Mean? Closer Look at Another Milestone for Lakers Superstar
LeBron James is widely regarded as one of the greatest NBA players of all time, with the Lakers star earning multiple recognitions throughout his career. On Sunday, James received another honor from the NBA as he was awarded a legacy patch on his jersey against the Utah Jazz.
The former champion had previously worn a patch affixed to the upper right chest to celebrate his record-setting 23rd NBA season since January. However, last night, James’ jersey featured a different patch honoring his legacy and marking the final game of his 23rd season.
Thanks for the submission!
The LA Lakers’ official social media handle highlighted this special patch in a pre-game post on X (formerly Twitter).

“New patch for the King 👑,” the handle captioned the post.
The patch was similar to the one he had worn previously, featuring his iconic chalk toss celebration and three colors representing the three teams he has played for. However, last night’s patch featured the word “Legacy” instead of “NBA Seasons,” with the number 23 at the center to commemorate his 23rd season.
The honor highlighted James’ incredible career, as he remains an integral part of the Lakers roster. While the forward had a smaller role on the team this term, injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves have once again put him at the forefront, as Los Angeles will rely on him for results during the playoffs.
James, however, seems ready for the task at hand, with the superstar recording back-to-back double-doubles since the backcourt duo’s injury and posing a constant threat during his team’s 131-107 win over the Utah Jazz.
LeBron James reflects on the Lakers securing home-court advantage for the playoffs
The LA Lakers secured the fourth seed following their win on Sunday. This will give them the home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the Houston Rockets as they hope to make a deep postseason run.
LeBron James reflected on the team securing this advantage during a post-game interview and offered his candid thoughts.
“Obviously, we’re going to be able to feed off our crowd; that’s going to be great. You know, having home court is great for our fans,” James said. “But the game is played between the four lines, so it doesn’t give us an advantage.”
Following a first-round exit last term, the Lakers will be eyeing a better result this time around, although a win against Houston will be a tough ask, especially with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves injured.
