“Azzi Fudd to Minnewota is not over” – WNBA Fans Stunned as Arike Ogunbowale Accepts Pay Cut on $1.4M Dallas Wings Supermax Contract
Arike Ogunbowale is committed to another four years with the Dallas Wings. On Friday, WNBA insider Alexa Philippou shared news about Ogunbowale’s new contract in an X post.
According to her, the Wings star was eligible for a $1.4 million supermax contract. However, she decided to take a pay cut to help the Wings build a better team. Fans swarmed the post’s comments section with their thoughts on Ogunbowale’s commitment.
“AZZI FUDD TO MINNESOTA IS NOT OVER PEOPLE 🤫🤫🤫🤫” one fan said.
“Taking less than the supermax just to ‘help the team’ is cute… but after career-low efficiency, 36% FG, 30% from 3, and 15.5 PPG last year? Dallas is paying for nostalgia, not production. Paige deserves better than carrying this inefficient chucker again,” another fan said.
“Good for her, now her and Paige need to work together. She was LOST in the dynamics of the game last year because it was all about Paige,” another fan commented.
Here are more reactions:
“It will be funny when Paige Bueckers gets the full max while Arike ‘sacrificed’ for the team,” one fan commented.
“The team will start to have a quality roster the second she’s off of it lol,” another fan said.
“Interesting… sacrificing salary for roster flexibility. Let’s see if Dallas can actually build a contender around her,” another fan commented.
Arike Ogunbowale averaged 15.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game last season.
Arike Ogunbowale pleads not guilty to battery charges
Arike Ogunbowale found herself in trouble on March 6 during a celebration for Mist BC’s Unrivaled championship win. The Dallas Wings star got into a physical altercation with a man at the E11EVEN club in Miami.
She punched a man in the face and was caught doing so on camera. The victim pressed battery charges against the Wings player. On Wednesday, Fos Sports’ Andy Slater reported that Ogunbowale has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.
“The state attorney’s office is moving forward with the battery charge against Arike Ogunbowale. The WNBA star has pleaded not guilty,” Slater wrote.
Arike Ogunbowale had an average run last season. She shot a career-low 36.4% and made only 5.1 of 13.9 attempts. She could not find her groove on the court, while the Wings kept falling lower in the standings. They finished in 13th place with a 10-34 record, despite drafting Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers as the first pick in the 2025 WNBA draft.
