Ric Flair has now issued a statement after being taken off Roots of Fight, allegedly by WWE
Thanks for the submission!
Ric Flair has been associated with Roots of Fight for some time, but WWE has now stated that he cannot be part of it, as per Flair. After an angry rant yesterday over the situation, he issued a statement, saying he wanted to thank Roots of Fight and added that it was not as cool as being part of the Hall of Fame, but it was something he had loved. He admitted he had been angry at WWE at first, but understood that business came first.
“The Nature Boy would like to take this opportunity to thank Roots of Fight. I have represented them over the years, pretty cool thing to have. Not as cool as being inducted in the Hall of Fame, but that was pretty amazing. How many people buy and respect this brand. I think I represented them well. People love it. Honored to have been part of the organization. I’m not even mad at people who took it away from me. I was at first. But I understand business. Business comes first. You always want to think they’ll make an exception, but sometimes an exception just can’t be made. Roots of Fight thank you for the honor and privilege of representing you, and I can’t wait to see the next member of your great team. Thank you.”
While what Flair said tonight was calm and understanding, it was not when he addressed the situation last night. He said he woke up to find he was no longer allowed to be with Roots of Fight due to WWE. He said he was the only wrestler to have achieved as much as he did, and that he had won 16 World Championships, not 21, discounting five of his title wins. He also said he had honored everything Vince McMahon had asked.
“I Woke Up This Morning To Find Out That I’m No Longer Allowed To Be With @rootsoffight Per @WWE. Let Me Think- I’m The Only Wrestler To Ever Be On 30 For 30 & Ranked In The Top 25 Of All Time, An Emmy Nominated Documentary-Courtesy Of The WWE, Which I Should Have Won But l Lost To A Team Not An Individual. 21 World Championships, But I Always Played By Your Rules And Kept It At 16. Paid Vince McMahon Back 800k When He Said He Would Forgive It. I Honored It,” Flair wrote.
It remains to be seen if there is anything further to this story.
