Los Angeles Angels’ Adell gives MLB its latest viral moment with 3 home-run robberies in 1-0 win

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell wasn’t content with one home-run robbery on Saturday night. Or two. The 26-year-old stole three would-be homers in the Angels’ 1-0 win over the Seattle Mariners.

The three highlights — including a final catch over the wall in the ninth inning — set social media ablaze. A photo of Adell standing in the right-field bleachers after tumbling into the stands for a catch racked up millions of views.

“Photo of the season,” one X user wrote.

“This is the best catch of the year and we haven’t even hit the middle of April yet,” former MLB pitcher Dallas Braden said on social media.

The performance almost certainly secured the victory for the Angels, who boosted their record to 4-5.

“I’ve never seen three home run robberies in one game, and I’ve never seen a guy on the third one fall into the stands, catch the ball and keep his feet in like he’s a wide receiver,” said Torii Hunter, a former Gold Glove outfielder who is now a special assistant to the Angels’ general manager. “I was jumping up and down. I almost passed out.”

Adell realized that he was approaching special territory after the second incredible catch.

“After the first one, I was pretty fired up,” he told reporters after the game. “When I got to the second one, which looked identical to the first, I thought, ’Wow, my routes are on point tonight.’ The third one was just grit. Top of the ninth, you have to get it done. It was crazy. It was like a movie scene.”
