3 player battles to watch out for in DC vs MI, Match 8 of IPL 2026 ft.
Delhi Capitals (DC) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Saturday, April 4, in match number eight of the ongoing IPL 2026. The afternoon clash will begin at 3:30 pm IST.
Both sides have kicked off their respective campaigns with wins. Delhi beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets, chasing down a 142-run target in 17.1 overs. Mumbai, on the other hand, completed a six-wicket win in a high-scoring match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), overhauling a 221-run target in 19.1 overs.
Delhi are currently placed fourth in the table with two points and a net run rate of 1.397. Mumbai also have two points in their tally but are fifth because of their net run rate of 0.687. DC and MI have faced off in 37 IPL matches. Mumbai lead the head-to-head record 21-16.
Here, we take a look at three interesting player battles to watch out for in the forthcoming contest.
#3 Lungi Ngidi (DC) vs Suryakumar Yadav (MI)
Suryakumar Yadav managed to score just 16 runs off eight balls in MI’s opening clash against KKR. The swashbuckling batter will aim to get a big score under his belt at the start of the season.
However, he could face a tough challenge against Lungi Ngidi’s slower ones. Suryakumar has at times struggled countering the change-of-pace deliveries. The South African pacer has mastered his cutters in the recent past and used them effectively during his three-wicket haul against LSG.
It is worth noting that Suryakumar has scored 60 runs from 34 balls at a strike rate of 176.46 off Ngidi’s bowling in T20Is. The seamer has managed to dismiss the 35-year-old twice in five innings.
#2 Tristan Stubbs (DC) vs Jasprit Bumrah (MI)
Tristan Stubbs’ contributions towards the back end of the innings would be key for Delhi. He played an important knock in the opening match, remaining unbeaten on 39 off 32 balls.
His contest with MI’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be exciting. The speedster has dismissed the South African batter once in four innings. Stubbs has scored eight runs off 12 balls and has a poor strike rate of 61.53 against the fast bowler.
#1 Axar Patel (DC) vs Rohit Sharma (MI)
DC skipper Axar Patel came to bowl in the powerplay against LSG. It won’t be a surprise if he does the same again here, given his impressive record against MI opener Rohit Sharma.
The veteran batter has an underwhelming strike rate of 91.3 against the left-arm spinner. He has gotten out to the bowler three times and has scored 63 runs off 69 deliveries.
Sharma looked in stunning form in MI’s inaugural match. He played a blistering 78-run knock off 38 balls. Axar also had a good first outing. The clever spinner picked up the crucial wicket of Aiden Markram and gave just 17 runs from three overs.
