“I’m not leaving Vegas” – A’ja Wilson Drops Bombshell on Free Agency as $1.4M Supermax Deal With Aces Looms
A’ja Wilson ended speculation about her future amid free agency. The Las Vegas Aces star committed to staying in Vegas while talking to the press at the USA basketball camp in Phoenix.
Annie Costabile from Front Office Sports reported Wilson’s take on her WNBA future in an X post on Thursday.
“I know exactly where I am. I know I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas, so I’m not looking anywhere,” Wilson said.
According to Spotrac, the Aces superstar is a free agent entering the 2026 WNBA season. She had signed a two-year $400,000 contract with the Aces in 2024. Wilson has been in Vegas for seven years. The Aces drafted her first overall in the 2018 draft and have continued building around her.
Wilson is a true superstar as she has led the Aces to three WNBA championships in the last five years. She is at her career’s prime and is eligible for a supermax contract.
The WNBA and the WNBPA finally reached an agreement on a new CBA on March 18. The league and the players’ union formally signed the new agreement on March 31. Wilson is now eligible to sign a $1.4 million supermax contract, according to the new CBA.
If the Aces sign A’ja Wilson to a supermax contract, she will be worth every penny. She averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game last season to lead the Aces to their third championship. On an individual level, she won the MVP award for the fourth time, becoming the only player to do so.
A’ja Wilson heads to USA basketball training camp amid Caitlin Clark’s absence
A’ja Wilson returned to USA basketball’s training camp in Phoenix. The LV Aces star was coming off a championship run and it was the first time that she attended a Team USA camp since.
The Aces star played a crucial role for Team USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She led the USA to a 67-66 win over France in the tournament’s gold medal game, becoming a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
Napheesa Collier joined Wilson at the Phoenix training camp scheduled to go on from April 1 to April 3. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are two notable names missing from the training camp roster. The young WNBA stars participated in the former training camps and represented the USA in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers last month.
