It’s Easter weekend and that means lots of fish dinners on Friday and egg hunts throughout the weekend.

In St. Jacobs, Saturday will be all about Easter with the Easter bunny on hand for photos and there will be specials in local stores and restaurants.

In downtown Guelph the Great Downtown Guelph Golden Egg Hunt is on. People are encouraged to go into stores to find the golden egg, take photos with it and post it on social media.

The Guelph Humane Society’s Spring Egg-stravaganza is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. While the egg hunts are fully booked, there will still be crafts and a chance to meet various animals, including bunnies.

For folks who are looking for a new sport, Fergus Highland RFC are holding a Try Rugby day on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre in Marden, just north of Guelph. This event is open to everyone, even if you’ve never played.

K-W Titans vs. Windsor Express

Saturday at 4 p.m.

Kitchener Memorial Auditorium

The K-W Titans will play Game 2 of their playoff series against the Windsor Express on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to come out and make some noise.

KW Titans host Ontario’s 1st orange jersey basketball game

The KW Titans wore orange jerseys during their game against the Windsor Express on Saturday, marking the first time a professional basketball team has worn orange jerseys in Ontario to honour residential school survivors. It was also to bring awareness to intergenerational impacts of residential schools and promote the concept that every Child Matters.
Local Indigenous leaders were in attendance, along with Phyllis Webstad, the founder of the Orange Shirt Society. Drummers and dancers took to the court during the half-time. CBC K-W’s Lauren Kuivenhoven was there.

Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs

Friday 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Knollwood Park, Kitchener and Riverside Park, Guelph

Dogs get a chance to hunt for colourful eggs with treats inside at these egg hunts that benefit National Service Dogs. People can sign up ahead of time online or show up the morning of and pay a registration fee to take part. 

Dogs get treats plus other prizes as well as a chance to socialize with other four-legged and two-legged pals.

Breithaupt Community Centre

This is no joke. Public swims at certain pools and at certain times will be just $2. The event moves around to other pools if you can’t make it this weekend. Sign up online ahead of the swim.

Eid Celebration

Saturday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Waterloo Public Library Eastside branch

This event will include crafts, activities and treats and is being organized in collaboration with the Coalition of Muslim Women K-W. This is a drop-in event for anyone to celebrate Eid or learn more about the holiday.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Broadway Musical

Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Registry Theatre, Kitchener

You know the story: Charlie finds a golden ticket in his chocolate bar and gets to visit Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory with his grandpa. Chaos ensues.

Tickets can be purchased online or, if there are any left, at the door.

Easter events at Waterloo Region Museums

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday

Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, Schneider Haus in Kitchener, McDougall Cottage in Cambridge

Spring and Easter are in the air at the museums this weekend.

Now while the egg hunt at Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum on Friday morning is sold out, but there are lots of other events all weekend.

McDougall Cottage in Cambridge will host Spring Fling on Saturday and Sunday with a carrot toss, bunny bowling, a hunt in the garden and seasonal crafts.

On Monday, McDougall Cottage is open for tours and people can check out the new exhibit Snapshots in Time: Nostalgia and Memory.

The Eggstravaganza at Schenider Haus on Saturday will have mini egg hunts, carrot toss, egg and spoon races and meet some baby chicks. 

On Friday, Sunday and Monday, there are more Easter-themed events including crafts, games, egg-speriments, mini egg hunts and the baby chicks will still be there.
