Chelsea eyeing up move for Manchester United target as they look to replace exit-linked Enzo Fernandez: Reports
Chelsea are reportedly looking at a Manchester United target for potentially replacing Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine midfielder has been linked with an exit and has also raised speculation about his future.
The Blues signed Fernandez for €115 million from Benfica in January 2023. He has made 161 appearances, scoring 28 goals and providing 29 assists. He is also the club’s vice-captain and has helped them win two trophies.
Thanks for the submission!
However, after their 8-2 aggregate defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, he raised speculation about his future. When asked if he would stay at Stamford Bridge, he said:
“I don’t know, I don’t know. There are eight games left and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see.”
As per the Daily Mail, this has prompted the Blues to look at Manchester United target Adam Wharton as a potential replacement. He is rated at around £70 million and is expected to leave Crystal Palace in the summer.
Wharton joined the Eagles from Blackburn Rovers in January 2024 and has recorded 84 appearances, providing 12 assists. His contract will expire in 2029, and he’s garnered interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and multiple other Premier League clubs.
Pundit opens up about Chelsea star’s links to Manchester United
In the last few months, Cole Palmer has been linked with a potential move to Manchester United. The Englishman was also a fan of the Red Devils growing up, despite having come through Manchester City’s academy.
Pundit Scott Sinclair shared his thoughts on these links, claiming that the Chelsea star could cost around £200 million in the summer. He heaped praise on the Englishman, stating that he “can change a game in an instant”. He added:
“If Chelsea don’t make the Champions League spot, then that’s up to him to decide. But Chelsea is a massive club and I don’t think any player would want to leave. He’s a top player, probably one of the best in the Premier League. I’m sure that sort of price tag, maybe £200M, will come along. He’s contracted and signed a long deal, so only time will tell.”
Palmer has recorded 53 goals and 32 assists in 122 games for the Blues. He has a massive contract at Stamford Bridge, which will expire in 2033. Hence, Manchester United will have to shell out a big fee if they are to sign him this summer.
