“Dawn Staley’s a dog”: Jerzy Robinson explains why she chose South Carolina as top prospect plays at McDonald’s All American Game
Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks will have Jerzy Robinson for the upcoming season. She is a five-star recruit and one of the best guards in the class of 2026.
Robinson was a part of Tuesday’s McDonald’s All-American game. During an interview with SportsCenter at the event, she shared her thoughts on playing for South Carolina and revealed why she decided to be coached by Staley.
“I think Dawn Staley’s a dog,” Robinson said (Timestamp- 0:34). “She did it as a coach. She did it as a player. And you know, she told me she was gonna add to me and not take away. She believed in me and my goal, and she told me she was gonna get me there. So, I’m ready to play for Dawn.”
Jerzy Robinson committed to play for South Carolina in December. She began her high school career at Desert Vista before transferring to Sierra Canyon in 2023.
On Monday, the five-star commit discussed the potential impact she will have as part of Dawn Staley’s team this upcoming season.
“I think for me, it’s versatility,” Robinson said. “Just coming in and being able to do anything, you know, contribute in different ways other than what we all know and left to do, which is scoring. I think leadership is gonna be a big role for me as well. So, just coming in and being a sponge, but also being myself when I step in there.”
Dawn Staley shares her thoughts after South Carolina makes the Final Four in this year’s March Madness
Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 14th consecutive season this year.
On Monday, they defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 78-52, booking their spot in the Final Four. This is the team’s sixth straight final four appearance. Staley praised her player for their performance in the postgame presser.
“This team has been through so much together, and they know what it takes to win at the highest level. I’m so proud of their effort and determination to get back to Final Four,” Staley said.
Last season, the Gamecocks competed for the national championship as SEC regular-season and tournament champions. However, they lost to UConn in the season finale, ending their hopes of becoming back-to-back champions.
Dawn Staley will get her chance at redemption as they gear up for a rematch against the Huskies in the Final Four. It is scheduled to be played on Friday at the Mortgage Matchup Center at 7 p.m. ET.
