Tiger Woods had hydrocodone pills in his pocket and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy when he was interviewed at the site of his car crash, according to a newly-released sheriff’s office report.

Woods, 50, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his Land Rover in Florida on Friday afternoon. The golf icon spent eight hours in jail before being released on bond.

At the crash scene, Woods’ movements were slow and lethargic, and he was sweating as he talked to deputies, according to an incident report released from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found two white pills, which were identified as the opioid hydrocodone used to treat pain, in his pocket, the report said.

When asked by a deputy if he took any prescription medications. Woods said, “I take a few.”

Woods told deputies he had been looking at his phone and fiddling with the radio before he clipped the truck in front of him, according to the report.

The crash took place on Jupiter Island, the town where Woods lives, just after 2pm local time. The golfer was traveling at “high speeds” on a beachside, residential road when his Land Rover clipped the truck and rolled onto its side, according to the sheriff’s office.

Woods showed “signs of impairment” and the truck had $5,000 in damage, according to the sheriff’s report. Neither Woods nor the other driver were injured.

Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer test that showed no signs of alcohol, but he refused a urine test, authorities said.

His agent at Excel Sports, Mark Steinberg, has not responded to multiple messages seeking comment. No one from Woods’ camp or the PGA Tour has commented since his arrest.

Woods is charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Under a change to Florida law last year, refusing a law enforcement officer’s request to take a breath, blood or urine test became a misdemeanor, even for a first offense.

Friday’s incident is the latest in a string of high-profile crashes involving the star, and his second DUI arrest.

In 2017, he was found passed out at the wheel and was arrested for driving under the influence in Florida. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving but avoided jail time.

In 2021, he was seriously injured in a crash after driving at least twice the 45mph speed limit in California, police said.
