“That’s heavy”: Perez Hilton reacts as DWTS alum Charlotte Jorgensen opens up about being saved after “terrifying” LaGuardia airport crash
Charlotte Jorgensen has shared a heartfelt message on Instagram after surviving the crash at LaGuardia Airport. She spoke about her struggles in dealing with the aftermath and also expressed her gratitude to the two dead pilots.
On March 22, an Air Canada flight collided with a truck while landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Pilots Captain Antoine Forest and First Officer Mackenzie Gunther died on the spot. Meanwhile, over 40 passengers and staff on the flight and two people on the truck suffered injuries.
On Monday, it was revealed that one of those passengers was Charlotte Jorgensen. The Dancing With The Stars Season 1 star shared an Instagram post with a picture of a collision and wrote:
“A week ago tonight, after a fabulous weekend in Montreal, I boarded Air Canada 8646 bound for La Guardia NYC. By now, probably most of you have heard of the collision that happened with a firetruck on the runway. I owe my life to two brave souls Captain Antoine Forest and First Officer Mackenzie Gunther – they made the ultimate sacrifice so that we all could live…. I am indebted to them and my thoughts are with their families.”
Blogger Perez Hilton reacted to Charlotte Jorgensen’s post on his website and wrote:
“That’s heavy. Forest and Gunther were true heroes!”
As Jorgensen shared her trauma after the incident, Hilton added:
“We can only imagine how much trauma her body and mind are currently working through… How terrifying.”
The blogger also shared his condolences for the pilots who died in the collision, adding:
“Our hearts remain with the pilots who lost their lives saving countless others. Rest in peace.”
As per the BBC, one flight attendant was thrown out of her seat, despite being strapped. She fell over 300 metres away from the plane but survived with a few fractures.
Meanwhile, Air Canada released a statement on Monday, March 30, reporting that CEO Michael Rousseau will retire later this year.

Charlotte Jorgensen details her experience after surviving the LaGuardia plane collision
Charlotte Jorgensen further shared in her Instagram post that the LaGuardia incident took a mental, emotional, and physical toll on her. She shared that she is with her loved ones now and will take her time to heal.
The DWTS star wrote:
“On the night I felt nothing as adrenaline was rushing through my body but the days after has been tough – physically, mentally and emotionally. I am at home now, and Nelson and Vivianna are taking good care of me. I will be taking time to heal.”
Jorgensen also expressed her gratitude for the love and especially thanked her Dancing With The Stars family, adding:
“I am grateful for all the love I have received and I send you all an extra warm hug. Thank you to my @dancingwiththestars family for your care and concern”
Charlotte Jorgensen was part of the first season of Dancing With the Stars and was partnered with John O’Hurley. They finished as the runners-up behind Kelly Monaco and Alec Mazo.
