AEW News & Rumor Roundup – Tony Khan has given up on female star; Saraya reunites with ex-WWE peer; huge setback for Mercedes Mone

Welcome to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Today, we cover headline-worthy news involving top pro-wrestling stars, including Mercedes Mone and Saraya (fka Page), among others.

Latest reports indicate Tony Khan has abandoned a former AEW Champion. Meanwhile, ex-All Elite star Saraya (fka Paige) reunited with a former WWE peer, and Mercedes Mone experienced yet another setback during her European tour. All this and more as we explore the latest news from All Elite Wrestling today. With that, let’s start this roundup.

#4. Tony Khan reportedly has no plans for Hikaru Shida

Professional wrestling is a constantly evolving business, but sometimes even the most decorated stars in the industry find themselves overlooked. A recent example is AEW original Hikaru Shida. A new report suggests that the Jacksonville-based promotion has seemingly given up on the former three-time AEW Women’s World Champion. Shida, who holds the record for the second-most women’s world title reigns in company history behind Toni Storm, has not competed on All Elite Wrestling TV since a November 2024 episode of Dynamite, where she faced Kris Statlander. While initial reports indicated that visa issues kept her off TV, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful recently provided an unfortunate update. Sapp reported that her visa issues are officially resolved, but her hiatus continues because Tony Khan currently has no creative plans for her.

Despite her prolonged absence from television, Shida has remained close to the wrestling scene and is currently residing in Orlando, Florida. She was even spotted backstage at an AEW event in the area a couple of months ago.

#3. Saraya (fka Paige) reunites with Ruby Soho

The professional wrestling world recently saw a heartfelt off-screen reunion between two former stablemates. Saraya (formerly Paige in WWE) and Ruby Soho shared an emotional moment at the Squared Circle Expo. These two stars were key members of the villainous group in Tony Khan’s promotion, The Outcasts, which was initially formed alongside Toni Storm and united by their shared past as WWE talents. Soho had been off AEW television for a long time to focus on her family after welcoming her first child. During her appearance at the convention, she reconnected with Saraya and posted a clip of their emotional reunion on her Instagram story.

A clip of the above can be viewed below:

The reunion is a reminder of the group’s chaotic run in the Jacksonville-based promotion, which eventually fell apart as members went their separate ways. Toni Storm was the first to leave, completely reinventing herself with her Timeless persona. Soho was eventually kicked out of the faction after participating in an on-screen romantic storyline with her real-life partner, Angelo Parker.

#2. Mercedes Mone loses the PTW Women’s Championship

The year 2026 has been tough for Mercedes Mone’s impressive championship collection. The CEO had a historic streak of success in 2024 and 2025, winning titles worldwide and holding an astonishing 13 championships at once, beating Ultimo Dragon’s record of 10 simultaneous belts. But her momentum slowed significantly starting late last year. On December 31, 2025, during an episode of Dynamite: New Year’s Smash, Mone’s record-breaking 584-day reign with the AEW TBS Championship ended. Afterward, the erstwhile Sasha Banks took a break from Tony Khan’s promotion. During her break, Mone toured Europe’s independent scene, where she faced a series of tough title losses, including dropping the CMLL Women’s Title, BestYa Women’s Title, and EWA Women’s Title.

Mone’s struggles continued on March 29 when she traveled to Poland to defend her Prime Time Wrestling (PTW) Women’s Championship against Diana Strong. The match concluded with Strong emerging victorious, officially dethroning Mone and adding another loss to her recent record.

#1. Becky Lynch says AEW star Claudio Castagnoli gave her and Seth Rollins the “greatest gift”

Becky Lynch recently shared an interesting backstage story about a generous gift she and her husband, Seth Rollins, received from Claudio Castagnoli (formerly known as Cesaro in WWE). During a recent interview on the Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg podcast, The Man described the unique gift-giving traditions that happen backstage after major PLEs. Lynch explained that historically, when male wrestlers compete in high-profile matches at WrestleMania, it is customary to exchange lavish gifts, especially expensive watches like Rolexes. However, Castagnoli decided to break from this tradition and choose something much more practical.

“It was a gift after WrestleMania. Historically, when guys would have WrestleMania matches they would give each other watches, Rolexes, it’s kind of a tradition that’s fallen off the wayside unless you’re Cody Rhodes. But, instead of gifting Seth a Rolex, Claudio gifted him a La Marzocco coffee machine, which was the greatest gift, the gift that keeps on giving. We use it every single day, every single day. It gets me out of bed in the morning,” Lynch said

During the same interview, Lynch also discussed another current AEW star and former member of the Four Horsewomen, Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks). The Man mentioned that the CEO’s return to WWE one day isn’t out of the question, and doors will always be open.
