“Messing up my sleep schedule” – Regian Eersel details his evolution from late-night gamer to disciplined ONE World Champion

Reigning ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion Regian Eersel of Suriname recently revealed his guilty pleasure outside the ring.

‘The Immortal’ is a fierce competitor, something that he also channels in his personal life. Eersel is also an avid gamer who spends his free time immersing in a virtual world to unwind.

However, the 33-year-old striker admitted it was quite hard to instill the discipline to know when to put the controller down.

Early in his career, Eersel was so enamored with gaming that it took a toll on his professional career.

“In the beginning, when I first had my PlayStation, I started with PlayStation 3 when I bought my own PlayStation,” he told ONE Championship in an exclusive interview.

“It was worse, man. I was playing deep into the night, messing up my sleep schedule and stuff. But now I’m just doing it for fun. I train twice a day now, so sometimes I still do it, but I prefer to rest my mind and lay down.”

While gaming continues to be part of Regian Eersel’s routine, he is more responsible, especially now that he has reached the pinnacle of the sport.

The Sityodtong Amsterdam affiliate will seek to reclaim his two-sport world champion status when he faces Rungrawee ‘Legatron’ Sitsongpeenong for the vacant ONE lightweight kickboxing world title.

This bout takes place at ONE Fight Night 42 on Friday, April 10, live from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.

Regian Eersel reveals his main priority over fighting and gaming

Regian Eersel will always be a father first and foremost.

His two daughters are his world, and the Surinamese fighter dedicates everything he does to them.

‘The Immortal’ detailed in an earlier interview with ONE Championship:

“I would describe myself as a devoted father. I see my kids every day and I try to be there for them. I try to spend as much time with them as I can. Besides my training, I’m just at home with my kids. So if my wife is not around, I’m almost 24 hours with my kids.”
