Lily’s story began in a tourist area of Hammamet, Tunisia, where two stray female dogs I had been caring for, whom I lovingly called “the Blanchettes,” lived together in an open field. They were gentle, harmless, and survived thanks to daily feeding.

Both dogs gave birth around the same time, and together they raised their puppies as one family. At one point, there were around twenty puppies playing together, safe and cared for. I visited them every day to bring food and make sure they were okay.
But slowly, the number of puppies began to decrease. Every day, a few would disappear. Some were likely taken, while others may have fallen victim to the harsh realities stray animals face.

One day, only two puppies remained: Lily and another small puppy. The next morning, when I came to feed them before work, I found Lily alone. Her mothers and the other puppy were gone. Something felt terribly wrong.
That evening, I returned with a heavy feeling in my heart. I searched the area and called out for them, but they were nowhere to be found. It was then I understood that a culling had taken place. Later, I learned from a local resident that municipal agents had come during the night and shot the dogs.

Lily had survived by hiding in the fig trees nearby. She was only about two months old, terrified, and completely alone. She had witnessed everything. After that, she was extremely fearful, especially of men, and would try to hide whenever she felt threatened.
I took her immediately to the veterinarian, then brought her home with me. I didn’t place her in boarding with my other rescued dogs. I kept her by my side in my apartment, giving her the safety, care, and love she had lost.

Over time, Lily slowly began to trust again. She was gentle, sensitive, and deeply attached. She became part of my daily life.
When she was about one and a half years old, I was finally able to secure a safe and loving adoption for her through a trusted association.

I personally accompanied her to France, where she was welcomed into a caring home in Normandy.
Today, Lily is safe, loved, and far from the violence she once endured.
I am an independent rescuer in Tunisia, currently caring for around 70–100 animals, both cats and dogs, on my own. I cover food, veterinary care, and shelter in very difficult conditions.
