Thousands of People and Pets Displaced by Severe Flooding in Hawaii | The Animal Rescue Site

Two massive storms slammed Hawaii and caused the worst flooding in 20 years leaving entire communities, including animal shelters, underwater. People and pets have lost their homes and were forced to flee with little warning.
Some were unable to escape the rising water. Rescue missions are underway in waist-deep water to save people and pets trapped in flooded areas.

Greater Good Charities is on the ground working with partners like Hawaiian Humane Society to provide emergency aid, medical care, pet food and supplies to people and animals impacted.

Parts of O’ahu and Maui took the hardest hits with two consecutive Kona Low storms dumping up to 4 feet of rain. Washed out roads and down trees are only making the situation worse as rescue teams try to reach those impacted.

Homes have been washed away, farms flooded, power outages, and entire communities destroyed. It will be another long road to recovery for Hawaiians, and they need our help now.

With an estimated $1 billion in damages, Governor Josh Green requested federal aid by asking the President of the United States for Major Disaster Declaration. He said in a press release, “These storms have impacted every county in our state and stretched our emergency response capabilities.”
