“This is weird”- Fans react to BTS’ RM’s remark about missing Taehyung’s ‘skinny body’ during his buff military era on Jimmy Fallon show

BTS’ appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 25, 2026 has sparked online discussion following a comment made by group leader RM aka Kim Namjoon about fellow member V aka Kim Taehyung. During a segment on rhe show, the members were asked what they missed most about one another.

Responding to the question about V, RM said he missed how “really skinny” Taehyung used to be. He added that the singer had developed a more buff and muscular physique during his military service, which he also briefly mimicked during the interview.

“I missed his… when he was really skinny because he got… he because he became around 86 kg in the military,” said the rapper, mimimicking V’s muscular build. “Now he’s slim again.”

The remark quickly drew wide reactions online. Some fans interpreted the comment as an unnecessary remark on appearance. Several social media users expressed discomfort with the nature of RM’s comment. One fan wrote,

“This is weird. The question was “what did you miss about about v? All of the things he could say about tae he choose he’s body build? Like what’s wrong wt u dude??? U could talk about “hanging out wt tae,or he’s funny side” like it could be anything but instead”being skinny “?”

This is weird 😐. The question was “what did you miss about about v? All of the things he could say about tae he choose he’s body build? Like what’s wrong wt u dude??? U could talk about “hanging out wt tae,or he’s funny side” like it could be anything but instead”being skinny “?

Similar responses questioned why physical changes were highlighted instead of personality traits or shared memories.

not dragging rm but this bothers me a lot. Tae was obviously happy w his physique esp since he kept training intensely for months after his discharge. I wonder why everyone kept having opinions on his body and whether he felt pressured to lose weight to fit a group or idol image

no bcos why is his body a topic for them? All he did was become buff from the intense training from his special force unit and suddenly they are acting like he was overweight or something. This is actually so fvcking weird

the way several members have been talking abt tae being buff and the concept of thinness, saying they thought he was gonna retire and preaching about how “idols should be skinny” i can only imagine the pressure tae was put under to slim down when this is the kind of environment

Fans kept on criticizing the comment pointing out that Taehyung was not overweight at the time. Some also shared that they loved Taehyung’s muscular body from military era and missed it.

Why do they act like Taehyung is fat or overweight when he’s the total opposite of it?! Nothing good about this show today. They made him uncomfortable twice and armys are doing the same unfortunately.

I don’t like that statement rm made about Tae’s body why would he say that??? His military body was perfect 💔. I am so disappointed in his I didn’t know body shaming was normalized around here.

That body shaming moment RM needs to learn from that I’m not gonna sidestep it. I’m gonna call it out. I love RM, but he was absolutely out of line for commenting on someone else’s body! If he said this about a woman, everybody would’ve landed on him -for me-no difference!

Tae loved his buff body so much, why did they have to make him feel like he did something wrong by bulking up and building his muscles? Friends shouldn’t do that.

BTS kick off ARIRANG promotions with Jimmy Fallon appearance ahead of Netflix documentary and global tour

The rest of the members also shared what they missed most about each other during their military service. Jimin mentioned Suga’s “1% better life,” referencing his laid-back and “low-energy” nature, while Suga contrasted that by saying he missed j-hope’s “100% better life,” pointing to the rapper’s well known energetic personality.

j-hope, in turn, said he missed Jin’s “worldwide handsome” face and Jin responded by choosing RM’s “smart brain.” V then mentioned that he missed Jungkook teasing him, whereas Jungkook said he did not feel the absence of Jimin as they served together. However, he added, that after their discharge, he found himself missing Jimin’s gochujang stew.
