If you live in Waterloo, Woolwich Township and Wellesley Township and your hydro bill is more expensive than usual, you’re not alone.
That’s because it’s actually two bills merged into one.
Enova Power Corp. recently consolidated its customer information system, resulting in a delay in billing for some customers in Waterloo, Woolwich and Wellesley as the billing cycles synced. Most customers in Kitchener and Wilmot are not affected.
The hydro company represents a large service area with about 157,466 customers that were serviced by Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro Inc. and Waterloo North Hydro Inc. before those companies merged in 2022.
“Those delayed bills are starting to grow now and they reflect the previous and current billing periods,” said Kelly McMath, the hydro company’s communications supervisor.

She said if the dollar amount on your bill looks unusually high, flip the bill over to check the billing period.
“The bill covers a longer billing period than normal. This will return to normal with our next billing cycle,” McMath said.
“If customers are affected by that billing delay, we’re being flexible with payment due dates and are waiving late payment fees.”
She says some of the higher bills may also be reflecting usage from even earlier in the year.
“There were some very cold weeks in January and February, so home heating systems were working overtime to keep homes and businesses warm. Most of those bills have already gone out, but in some cases they were caught up with that billing delay and are only now being issued,” McMath explained, encouraging residents to call them if they feel like they cannot pay the entire bill right away.
“This is a one-time occurrence and we are being flexible with those customers who are affected by the billing delay with waiving payment due dates and late payment fees.”
The affected customers should have received their bill sometime during the end of February to the first week of March.
