Suspected drug driver crashes car into telegraph pole in Cambridgeshire village


The driver reportedly tried to flee the scene, but was later caught by police

A driver reportedly fled the scene of a car that crashed into a telegraph pole. Cambridgeshire Police came across a white Fiat Punto crashed into the pole on the B645 at Great Staughton at around 10.30pm on Tuesday (March 24).

Officers found no driver at the scene, but later found him. A force spokesperson said the man tested positive for cocaine and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

After searching the car, officers found 15 bottles of nitrous oxide inside it. The man was then further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class C drugs.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers came across this white Fiat Punto that had driven into a telegraph pole at about 10.30 last night on the B645 Great Staughton.

“The driver had already left the scene, but didn’t get very far. He tested positive for cocaine and was arrested for drug driving. He was further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class C drugs.”
