Two men have been charged after a 21-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting in Winnipeg’s West End and died of his injuries last month.

Jeremiah Riley Bateman, 21, was critically injured in a Feb. 11 shooting on Agnes Street, between Sargent Avenue and Wellington Street, and died on Feb. 14, Winnipeg police said in a news release March 14.

Winnipeg police said Monday that two men in their 20s have been charged in Bateman’s death — one with second-degree murder and the other with manslaughter.

Michael James Jason Guimond, 28, was arrested after an hours-long standoff with police on Thursday, police said in a news release.

Officers went to a home on Mountain Avenue, between Charles and Salter streets, just after 10:30 a.m. on Thursday to arrest Guimond, but the incident developed into an “armed and barricaded situation,” the news release said, and critical incident command was deployed.

Several specialized teams — including the tactical support team, Manitoba integrated violent offender apprehension unit and crisis negotiators — helped bring Guimond into custody around 4:45 p.m. that day, the news release said.

Guimond was charged with manslaughter and remains in custody, police said.

Jonathan Ryan Sinclair, 26, was arrested without incident on Brazier Street around 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, police said. He was charged with second-degree murder and detained in custody.
