Boxing’s youngest unified world champion closing in on Jaron Ennis fight | Boxing News

Jaron Ennis could soon find himself involved in a massive fight after all.
For the past few months, Ennis looked to be on the verge of agreeing a deal to take on fellow unbeaten star Vergil Ortiz in a huge 154lb battle, but after Ortiz found himself at the centre of a dispute with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya, the bout unfortunately fell through.
It left fans wondering whether ‘Boots’ and his promoter Matchroom would be able to secure a clash with the same level of magnitude as a match-up against Ortiz, and it appears that one could be on the brink of being confirmed.
The recent announcement that Top Rank had signed a deal with streaming platform DAZN is a big factor, after Chris Mannix reported that Top Rank fighter Xander Zayas is in advanced talks for a showdown against Ennis, with the two teams hopeful of making a deal.
“The Top Rank deal opens things up for a lot of cross-promotional fights, and we may get a very big one in the next couple of months.
“Over the last week I’ve reported that there were preliminary discussions between the teams of Xander Zayas and Jaron Ennis for a title fight between those two 154-pounders.
“Those conversations have advanced significantly over the last week, and I’m told both sides are very optimistic that they can get a deal done.”
Zayas is the current youngest unified male world champion in boxing, having added the WBA light middleweight title to his WBO strap when he defeated Abass Baraou back in January.
A fight against Ennis would see two unbeaten stars go head-to-head and give ‘Boots’ the chance to be a two-weight world champion, having already been a unified world champion at welterweight.
