Hideki Matsuyama beats Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth to sit second in most strokes gained since 2013

Hideki Matsuyama sits in second place in the list of most strokes gained since 2013. The Japanese golfer won the recently concluded 2025 Hero World Challenge.
Following that, golf data analyst Rick Gehman shared the stats of most strokes gained since 2013. The list was topped by Rory McIlroy, followed by Matsuyama. He had the strokes gained of 1,158.

Matsuyama surpassed some top-ranked golfers such as Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele, Jon Rahm, and Matt Kuchar. Gehman shared the post on his X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption:
“Hideki Matsuyama bookends his 2025 with victories and notches his 13th straight year of 50+ strokes gained. He’s now second, behind just Rory McIlroy, for most SG since 2013.”
Hideki Matsuyama had enjoyed a phenomenal season on the PGA Tour in 2025. He played in 23 tournaments and made the cut in 20 of them. He recorded some impressive finishes.
He started the season with a win at the Sentry, where he carded the four rounds of 65, 65, 62, and 65. However, he then had mixed performances. He settled in T16 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T13 at the Genesis Invitational. However, after some decent finishes, he struggled and missed the cut at the Players Championship and the Valero Texas Open, but bounced back with a T21 at the Masters and a T17 at the Truist Championship.
Some of his notable finishes are T13 at the Rocket Classic, T19 at the Wyndham Championship, T17 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and T20 at the BayCurrent Classic.
Hideki Matsuyama opens up about his win at Hero World Challenge
Hideki Matsuyama settled in a tie for the lead after four rounds with Alex Noren at 22-under at the 2025 Hero World Challenge. The two played in a playoff, and finally the Japanese golfer clinched the title after making a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Matsuyama started the final round with a par on the first hole. He made back-to-back birdies on the ninth and then added an eagle on the 10th hole, followed by a birdie on the 13th. In the post-round press conference, Hideki Matsuyama talked about his eagle on the 10th. He said (via Tee Scripts):
“A lot of luck with No. 10 eagle, and also the partner with Alex, he played well like last four, five hole, so it was good mood playing together.”
Sepp Straka settled in third place at the Hero World Challenge. He was in contention to win the title but struggled in the final round on Sunday. He carded 68 and slipped down to third place.
J.J. Spaun tied for fourth place in a tie with Scottie Scheffler. Justin Rose secured sixth place on the leaderboard, followed by Corey Conners, who finished in seventh place.
