A police man hunt is continuing for three men after an alleged pepper spray attack which injured 21 people at Heathrow Airport, causing disruption and sparking an armed police response.
The assault – which the Met said was isolated and not treated as terrorism – resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a short time on Sunday.
A three-year-old girl was among those who needed treatment, with five others going to hospital.
The Metropolitan Police said a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault following the incident which involved the robbery of a woman’s suitcase in the car park lift just after 08:00 GMT.
The substance, which police believe is a type of pepper spray, was used when a group of four men took the luggage.
Cdr Peter Stevens said police believe those directly involved were known to each other, and officers were working “to determine the full circumstances around what happened”. The force earlier said there was an argument that escalated, resulting in people being injured.
Those injured are not believed to be in life-threatening or life-changing conditions.
