Former Nexus Member Has Arrived In AEW 9 Years After WWE Release

A former WWE Superstar and member of Nexus has suddenly made their AEW debut earlier tonight, taking on a top second-generation star ahead of Dynamite. This was a great opportunity for the latter.

Steven Borden Jr, the son of the legendary Sting, has been undergoing wrestling training over the past year. Several stars in the business have been working with him. He has already made his wrestling debut and has competed in matches for AEW, ROH, and the independent circuit.

Earlier tonight, ahead of AEW Dynamite, Borden Jr. was in action against Fred Rosser (fka Darren Young). Rosser was with WWE for more than a decade before his release in 2017. Since then, he has been affiliated with NWA and NJPW, so this dark match was his first appearance for the Tony Khan-led promotion. It remains to be seen whether this was just a one-off appearance.

Fred Rosser has been one of the individuals training the second-generation star. Their dark match earlier tonight seems to be a product of this mentorship and a way for the young wrestler to get some reps in the ring.

While speaking to Darren Paltrowitz almost a month ago, the former WWE Superstar mentioned that training Sting’s son was a personal project he wanted to follow through on.

“I’m working with Sting’s son, Steven Borden, helping to groom him privately and helping him become all that he’s created to be inside the ring. He’s working hard, doing some dark matches, getting some reps out in front of a crowd. That means a lot to me, so that’s a personal project that I’m trying to conquer.”

The young star has received great praise from many for his in-ring work. Tony Khan himself has also shown his excitement for his wrestling future and has hinted at possibly signing him to AEW.
