Virgin River season 8 is officially on the way after successful seasons that have elevated Netflix’s romantic drama set in a small Northern California town. It has been officially confirmed by Netflix in July 2025, as announced via Tudum ahead of the completion of season 7 filming.

Since its premiere in 2019, the show has garnered a fanbase that is deeply engrossed in the journeys of Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan, played by Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson respectively.

Season 8 seems to be continuing with the powerful character-driven stories that have gotten the audience so deeply invested in the leading characters with every season. The continual high ratings of the series have made it one of Netflixs most long-lasting entertainment offering.

Virgin River season 8 is officially happening. In fact, Netflix decided to renew the series’ eighth season back in July 2025, even before the seventh season finished filming. The eighth season of Virgin River will therefore become the longest-running original scripted series for the streaming platform.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith recognized the series’ duration by commenting that character growing and changing seem to be an inexhaustible source of story for them. Besides, the renewal is a proof that the storylines of Mel, Jack, and the other Virgin River locals are still the main factors of the show’s popularity.

As these characters are continuously changing, season 8 along with other future episodes will probably present them facing new difficulties and changes in their lives.

Even though an official plot for Virgin River season 8 hasn’t been disclosed yet, the upcoming episode is probably going to reflect the happenings of season 7. In fact, the main change in the story is Mel and Jack finally becoming parents after a very long and deeply moving situation.

Their baby has a medical condition which leads to new difficulties for the couple. Communion is season 8 and its main scenes are when Mel and Jack are finding their way through the difficulties of parenthood. Besides, the presence of Mel’s ex-partner Eli who besides being the doctor of the child, is adding a totally new element that will surely complicate things.

Besides the main plot, season 8 will probably also feature new stories about the characters in the community. The main actors are expected to reprised their roles, Tim Matheson, Annette OToole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Kai Bradbury and Kandyse McClure.

On the other hand, two big names won’t be part of the show anymore, as it has been confirmed that Marco Grazzini and Lauren Hammersley won’t be in the new season.

Speaking about the release date of the show, Virgin River season 8 still doesn’t have a set date for its premiere. According to the latest production plans, the shooting of the new season is scheduled for 2026 which would mean the show is likely to be out in 2027.
