Cristiano Ronaldo’s family ‘don’t know’ when they’ll return to Saudi amid war

Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez left Saudi Arabia with their five children earlier this month following the escalation of the Middle-East conflict

Cristiano Ronaldo’s family are reportedly unsure about when they will return to Saudi Arabia after fleeing to Spain.

The Al-Nassr forward’s fiancé Georgina Rodriguez and their five children left Saudi, where the football icon has been playing since 2023, on March 3 aboard their private jet before later being joined by the Portugal international.

Since then, they have been living in their Madrid mansion located in the highly exclusive La Finca neighbourhood. The timing of the Portuguese superstar’s departure from the Middle East coincided with his children’s Spring school holidays, which were brought forward due to the ongoing war in the region.

Spanish publication Vanitatis reports that the decision was taken by Ronaldo and Rodriguez to maintain a sense of normality for their children amid the escalating crisis. The report says Ronaldo did not feel his family were at risk but still felt unease and wanted to protect his children.

The publication also mentioned that sources close to Rodriguez, who is originally from Madrid, claim she is unsure about when she will return to Saudi, with the date of the family’s return to Riyadh not yet determined and not tied to the school calendar.

However, there have been contrasting reports suggesting that Ronaldo’s departure from the Middle East has less to do with the conflict that has engulfed the region this month and more to do with his ongoing recovery from a hamstring injury.

The 41-year-old picked up an injury during Al-Nassr’s fixture against Al-Fayha in late February. The official explanation given for his trip to Spain is that he is focusing on his fitness and undergoing specialist rehabilitation there with a private physiotherapist.

Al-Nassr’s Portuguese boss Jorge Jesus said: “Cristiano’s injury is more serious than we first thought. He will travel to Spain to receive treatment with a personal therapist, as many players do. We hope he returns soon and can help the team.”

Ronaldo’s injury comes with the World Cup fast approaching. The 2026 World Cup this summer represents Ronaldo’s final chance to represent his country at the prestigious tournament and win it for the first time. Many expect that he will retire from his legendary career after its conclusion.

His recovery in Madrid aligns with Rodriguez’s own Madrid Fashion Week commitments this week. While Ronaldo is expected to return to Al-Nassr training following his recovery, it is unclear whether Rodriguez and their children will return to Saudi following the end of Fashion Week.
