Veteran opener Rohit Sharma looked in fine touch during a nets session as he joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The 19th season of the prestigious tournament is set to get underway on March 28.
On Tuesday, March 17, the franchise shared a post on X, posting clips from the training session, including open nets. Rohit appeared in excellent rhythm and also took part in fielding drills, while other players also fine-tuned their skills.

In the upcoming season, the 38-year-old will be keen to make an impact as MI look to secure their first title since 2020. During his tenure as captain, Rohit led the franchise to five championships before Hardik Pandya was elevated to the role ahead of the 2024 season.
In the previous edition, Mumbai Indians were knocked out of the tournament after a five-wicket loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Eliminator. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma scored 418 runs in 15 innings at an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 149.28, including four fifties.

Rohit Sharma has been part of the IPL since its inception in 2008, initially playing for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. He joined Mumbai Indians in 2011 and has remained with the franchise ever since.
Overall, he has featured in 272 matches in the tournament’s history, amassing 7,046 runs in 267 innings at an average of 29.73 and a strike rate of 132.09, including 47 fifties and two centuries. He is also the leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, having accumulated 5,876 runs in 227 matches (223 innings) at an average of 29.52 and a strike rate of 132.22, with 39 fifties and two hundreds.
Meanwhile, his best season came in the 2013 edition, when he scored 538 runs in 19 innings at an average of 38.42 and a strike rate of 131.54, including four fifties.
