March Madness 2026: Top 5 biggest women’s teams that we’re snubbed from NCAA tournament ft. BYU and more
The women’s NCAA tournament field is set, and March Madness is on the horizon. The UConn Huskies, South Carolina Gamecocks, UCLA Bruins, LSU Tigers and usual favorites are in the bracket, while some notable programs are absent.
With that in mind, let’s look at a handful of teams that were snubbed from the biggest event in women’s collegiate basketball.
Top 5 biggest women’s teams that we’re snubbed from NCAA tournament
5. Texas A&M Aggies
The Aggies won six of the last regular-season games. However, that wasn’t enough for the selection committee in the 2025-26 season.
Texas A&M had a rough start to the season against SEC opponents. Their eight-game losing streak vs conference opponents ultimately proved costly once March rolled by.
4. Utah Utes
This marks the end of the Utes’ four-season streak of participating in the NCAA tournament. Utah lost five of its final eight games in the regular season.
The selection committee typically favors teams in stellar form at the later stages of the season. Furthermore, two losses against the BYU Cougars (more on them later) ultimately proved costly.
3. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Seven losses in their last five games, plus being on a five-game losing streak entering Selection Sunday. It was always going to be a tall order for the Bulldogs to feature in the NCAA tournament.
Furthermore, three of those losses came against the South Carolina Gamecocks, the LSU Tigers, and the Texas Longhorns. The Bulldogs will look to regroup for another go in the upcoming campaign.
2. North Dakota State Bison
You’ve got to feel for North Dakota State. The Bison lost just four games all season, but a Summit League conference championship loss effectively ended their March Madness dreams.
The Bison dealt with turnover challenges all season. They’re a promising program and should be a fixture in future tournaments.
1. BYU Cougars
BYU ended the regular season with a five-game winning streak. However, an early exit in the Big 12 Tournament complicated their bid.
The Cougars ultimately were snubbed by the selection committee. Their 11 losses prevented them from competing for the biggest prize in women’s collegiate basketball.
