2026 NFL Free Agency Week 1 Grades: Bills receive A for getting DJ Moore for Josh Allen, Chiefs get B for adding Kenneth Walker III, and more
Deals began pouring in once the NFL’s free agency negotiating window opened Monday. Within hours, many of the biggest names available had already been linked to new teams, and by Wednesday, when free agency officially began, several of the top players on the market had signed.
Now one week into free agency, the Denver Broncos remain the only team in the NFL that has yet to sign an outside free agent. While Denver has managed to re-sign some of its own players, the team has also lost contributors and has not added new talent from the open market.
Thanks for the submission!
With that in mind, here is a look at how every team around the league has performed in free agency so far, with grades assigned.

2026 NFL free agency Week 1 grades
Arizona Cardinals: C+

The Cardinals made a few depth additions, including bringing in Gardner Minshew at quarterback. But after releasing Kyler Murray, they still do not have a clear Week 1 starter under center, which keeps their free agency grade firmly in the middle of the pack
Atlanta Falcons: B+
The Falcons took a calculated approach to free agency, focusing on low-risk moves. Signing Tua Tagovailoa to a one-year deal gives the team an experienced option to compete with Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback.
Additions such as Jahan Dotson and Austin Hooper also strengthen the offense.
Baltimore Ravens: A
Baltimore’s free agency took a surprising turn when a blockbuster trade for Maxx Crosby fell apart after a failed physical. The Ravens immediately signed Trey Hendrickson to fix their pass-rush problem without surrendering draft picks.
Although the Ravens lost players like Tyler Linderbaum and Isaiah Likely, they offset some of those departures by adding one of the top safeties on the market in Jaylinn Hawkins.
Buffalo Bills: A
Buffalo came into the offseason needing help at wide receiver and edge rusher, and the team moved quickly to address both areas. The Bills traded for D.J. Moore to strengthen the receiving corps and signed Bradley Chubb to boost the pass rush.
Carolina Panthers: A
The Panthers wasted little time improving their roster in free agency. They reinforced their offensive line with Luke Fortner, Rasheed Walker and Stone Forsythe.
The biggest splash came on defense with the additions of pass rusher Jaelan Phillips and linebacker Devin Lloyd.
Chicago Bears: B
The Bears brought in Cobee Bryant to replace veteran safety Kevin Byard, adding a younger defensive back who can contribute in multiple coverage roles.
Most of the team’s activity focused on mid-tier signings designed to improve depth and raise the overall baseline of the roster.
Cincinnati Bengals: B-
After losing Trey Hendrickson to the Ravens, the Bengals quickly responded by signing Boye Mafe.
The move addresses a major weakness for Cincinnati, whose defensive line finished the 2025 season ranked last in the league in pass-rush win rate.
Cleveland Browns: C+
The Browns made the offensive line a clear priority in free agency, signing Zion Johnson, Elgton Jenkins and Tytus Howard. After finishing in the bottom 10 in both run-block win rate and pass-block win rate in 2025, they clearly needed reinforcements up front.
Dallas Cowboys: C
Dallas addressed its secondary with the additions of Cobie Durant and Jalen Thompson. However, the team’s lack of moves to improve linebacker depth during the first week of free agency stands out as a missed opportunity.
Denver Broncos: D
Denver remained largely inactive during the first week of free agency. The team prioritized re-signing its own players instead of making significant external acquisitions
Detroit Lions: B
Detroit focused on bolstering its offensive line in the first week of free agency, signing versatile linemen Cade Mays and Larry Borom.
Green Bay Packers: C
The Packers addressed a key need by signing DT Javon Hargrave, adding a proven leader to the defensive line. Cornerback Benjamin St-Juste is also a strong value acquisition.
Houston Texans: B-
The Texans focused on shoring up the offensive line, adding Braden Smith and Ed Ingram to provide stability. Their moves addressed key offseason questions efficiently.
Indianapolis Colts: B
The Colts played it smart in Week 1 of free agency. They retained their core, then signed Juanyeh Thomas and Jonathan Owens to give a struggling defense a needed boost.
Jacksonville Jaguars: D
The Jaguars struggled in free agency, parting with key contributors such as Travis Etienne and Devin Lloyd. They have only been able to re-sign role players due to salary cap constraints.
Kansas City Chiefs: B+
The Chiefs retained star tight end Travis Kelce and added key talent, including Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III and veteran safety Alohi Gilman.
Las Vegas Raiders: B+
The Raiders improved both sides of the ball with key additions, including Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker, Kwity Paye, Taron Johnson and center Tyler Linderbaum.
Los Angeles Chargers: C-
Los Angeles struggled to address key needs in Week 1 of free agency. Most acquisitions were depth pieces, though Tyler Biadasz provides a solid option at center.
Los Angeles Rams: B+
The Rams focused on improving their secondary, landing All-Pro corner Trent McDuffie in a trade with the Chiefs and signing defensive back Jaylen Watson.
Miami Dolphins: B
Miami moved on from several big contracts this offseason and replaced Tua Tagovailoa by signing Malik Willis, a cost-effective quarterback option. They also added veteran offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer to strengthen the line and support the offense.
Minnesota Vikings: B
Minnesota’s free agency highlight is the addition of Kyler Murray. His arrival creates competition at quarterback with J.J. McCarthy and injects experience into the offense heading into 2026.
New England Patriots: B-
The Patriots upgraded their offense by signing wide receiver Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $80 million deal. Key additions such as Kevin Byard and Dre’Mont Jones also help offset the departures of Jaylinn Hawkins and K’Lavon Chaisson.
New Orleans Saints: A-
The Saints improved their offense by signing running back Travis Etienne Jr., tight end Noah Fant and guard David Edwards. Losing veteran defensive leader Cam Jordan is the main downside to an otherwise strong start to free agency.
New York Giants: B-
The Giants have been active in free agency, adding Tremaine Edmunds, Isaiah Likely, Greg Newsome II and Jordan Stout while keeping Jermaine Eluemunor.
New York Jets: D
The Jets added eight players early in free agency, but the roster moves so far offer only limited improvement for a team still searching for its first playoff appearance in 15 years.
Philadelphia Eagles: B-
Philadelphia replaced key losses such as Jaelan Phillips and Reed Blankenship with smart additions, including Arnold Ebiketie and Riq Woolen.
Pittsburgh Steelers: A
The Steelers are off to a strong start in free agency. Michael Pittman, Rico Dowdle and Jamel Dean provide immediate upgrades and address major holes across the roster.
San Francisco 49ers: B+
The 49ers added veteran WR Mike Evans to bolster the passing game, while DT Osa Odighizuwa and LB Dre Greenlaw represent savvy acquisitions to strengthen the defense.
Seattle Seahawks: D
The Seahawks remained quiet in Week 1 of free agency, re-signing mostly in-house players while losing key contributors such as Kenneth Walker III, Boye Mafe and Riq Woolen. Their only notable addition was low-cost veteran safety Rodney Thomas II.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: C
Tampa Bay made moderate upgrades with Kenneth Gainwell, Alex Anzalone and A’Shawn Robinson, but the loss of cornerstone players such as Mike Evans and Jamel Dean overshadows the additions.
Tennessee Titans: B+
The Titans signed more than 10 players in free agency, including cornerbacks Alontae Taylor and Cor’Dale Flott and wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, all expected to contribute immediately. Other additions provide solid depth for the roster.
Washington Commanders: A
The Commanders made key additions in free agency, strengthening both sides of the ball. Edge rushers Odafe Oweh, K’Lavon Chaisson and Charles Omenihu are expected to provide immediate impact, while cornerback Amik Robertson also addresses a major defensive need.
