“They do have those options available” – Aakash Chopra on the Gujarat Titans’ strengths heading into IPL 2026
Former India player Aakash Chopra has picked the Gujarat Titans’ (GT) seam-bowling department as one of their strengths heading into IPL 2026. He pointed out that the Ahmedabad-based franchise has a plethora of fast bowlers in its squad.
GT retained Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Arshad Khan, Gurnoor Singh Brar and Ishant Sharma heading into the IPL 2026 auction. They bolstered their seam-bowling resources by acquiring Ashok Sharma, Jason Holder, Prithviraj Yarra and Luke Wood at the auction.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ the former India batter highlighted that the Gujarat Titans have many seam-bowling options available heading into IPL 2026.
“They have good fast bowling reserves, in which Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Kagiso Rabada will be seen. Then they also have Ishant Sharma, Arshad Khan and Gurnoor Brar. They have taken Ashok Sharma this time, who is actually quite decent. So they do have those options available,” he said.
Chopra added that Rashid Khan’s presence strengthens the GT spin attack, with Washington Sundar likely to be used more this season.
“In spin, since Rashid Khan is there, that is always a strength. Along with him, Sai Kishore does well, and Washington Sundar might have a slightly bigger role this time,” he observed.
With 19 scalps at an economy rate of 9.24 in 15 games, Sai Kishore was the Gujarat Titans’ second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025. While Rashid Khan picked up only nine wickets at an economy rate of 9.34 in 15 matches, Washington Sundar accounted for two dismissals in five innings, conceding an average of 10.24 runs per over.
“It’s a very stable squad” – Aakash Chopra on the Gujarat Titans’ other strengths heading into IPL 2026

In the same video, Aakash Chopra chose squad stability as another of the Gujarat Titans’ strengths heading into IPL 2026.
“It’s a very stable squad. Ashish Nehra, as a coach, determines that the squad remains stable always, so that there aren’t too many changes. They are very stable kind of people. You see that in Ashish Nehra’s coaching,” he said.
The cricketer-turned-commentator added that GT have an excellent top order comprising Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler.
“You have a stable batter and a good captain in Shubman Gill. Their top three were excellent last year, and are excellent this year as well. Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler have always been good,” Chopra observed.
Sai Sudharsan (759), Shubman Gill (650) and Jos Buttler (538) were the Gujarat Titans’ top three run-getters in IPL 2025. Sherfane Rutherford (291), who has been released, was their only other player to score more than 200 runs last season.
