Waterloo region and Guelph are expected to see a messy mix of snow, freezing rain and high winds Sunday.

A special weather statement by Environment Canada issued Saturday says a band of snow will move in Sunday morning and bring easterly or southeasterly winds up to 70 km/h.

“Brief” freezing rain is also possible, the weather agency says.

Around two to six centimetres of snow is expected, with one to two millimetres of ice accretion.

Blowing snow due to the wind will reduce visibility on the road, making it difficult to travel, warned Environment Canada.

“The snow will move northward and out of most regions on Sunday afternoon or late afternoon,” the statement says.

“Strong southerly wind gusts may develop again Sunday afternoon or Monday morning with local power outages as possible impacts.”
