Cameron Young puts PGAT pros on notice by declaring bold Major ambition
Cameron Young has made it clear that his main focus this season is to give himself more chances to win a major championship.
The American said much of his early schedule is about building momentum before the Masters at Augusta, where he hopes to put himself in contention on the final day.
Thanks for the submission!
“The main thing the first part of the season is just the run-up to Augusta,” Young said. “The goal was to put myself in contention as much as I can so that I can be as comfortable as possible hopefully late on a Sunday at Augusta.”
“But yeah, we play so many big events between the start of the season and there that it really is what I just said; it’s just trying to put myself in contention as much as possible and getting myself comfortable for the start of the major season.”
Young has already shown encouraging form this week at The Players Championship. He opened the tournament with rounds of 68 and 67 at TPC Sawgrass and currently sits in solo second place after two rounds.
The tournament is his sixth start of the 2026 season. His best result so far came recently at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he finished tied for third.
Last season also showed glimpses of what Young is capable of on the biggest stages. Making his debut for the United States team for the 2025 Ryder Cup, he posted a 3-1-0 record and finished as one of the team’s top performers despite the overall defeat.
Across the 2025 season, Young played 25 tournaments and made the cut in 18 of them. He recorded one victory along with five top-five finishes and eight top-10s.
In the majors last year, Young’s best result came at the U.S. Open where he finished tied for fourth. He also finished tied for 47th at the PGA Championship, while missing the cut at both the Masters and The Open Championship.
With the major season approaching again, Cameron Young hopes consistent finishes and more time in contention will help him take the next step when those events arrive.
