Cheltenham Festival Gold Cup LIVE: Results and tips as The Jukebox Man goes for glory

4.00: Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Steeple Chase expert tips

Ruby Walsh’s tip: Gaelic Warrior

”Gaelic Warrior bids to give connections a Champion Hurdle – Gold Cup double, and I’m with him. Any rain will be an advantage to him, and the race set-up should be ideal with plenty of pace on. I can see him being dropped in towards the inner, powering through on the run to the last, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

Jonathan Doidge’s tip: Gaelic Warrior & Grey Dawning (each-way)

“I’m very pleased to see Gaelic Warrior take his chance in the Blue Riband event and have recommended an ante-post bet on him. Nothing has changed in that respect, despite his defeats since. He has Festival-winning form, I think he has a fantastic engine and I just wish he would settle.

“I also recommended an each-way play, ante-post, on Grey Dawning some time ago. He’ll need to bounce back, however, after his Cotswold Chase run.”

When is the Gold Cup? Runners, odds and start time for Cheltenham Festival main event

A four-day spectacle of horse racing action builds to the showpiece event: The Boodles Cheltenham Gold Gup.

The race will be run on Friday 13 March where jockey Mark Walsh and Inothewayurthinkin will attempt to back up their victory from 2025 and claim the trophy for a second year running.

With prize money of £625,00, the Grade 1 chase is the most valuable jumps race in Britain and Ireland after the Grand National and represents the ultimate challenge for the very best horses. 22 fences are to be jumped during three miles and two-and-a-half furlongs concluding in a punishing finish up the Cheltenham hill.

Cheltenham contenders: Gaelic Warrior & Jango Baie

Gaelic Warrior is the favourite in the main event today, but Paul Townend fell to a second-placed finish last time out against Fact To File at Leopardstown.

Jango Baie won the Arkle last year and has impressed over the longer distances, but this is his first race beyond three miles.

Cheltenham contenders: Envoi Allen & Firefox

Three-time Cheltenham winner Envoi Allen is a 33/1 outsider for the big race of the day, with Henry De Bromhead looking to improve on a third-place finish in the Ryanair Chase in 2025.

Meanwhile, Gordon Elliott’s Firefox is a 22/1 outsider, having never won at Cheltenham before.

Johnnys Jury wins Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Another outsider winner on day four, with Johnnys Jury having started at 20/1!

It’s a win for Jamie Snowdon and Gavin Sheehan as the rain begins to fall at Prestbury Park.

Johnnys Jury wins Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Johnnys Jury comes from inside the middle of the pack, the duo racing through and putting themselves in contention with Fruit De Mer.

However, it’s Johnnys Jury who breaks free of the pack, gaining plenty of ground down the home straight and winning by over half a length in the end.

Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

It looks like that same trio will contest the final part of the race…but Doctor Steinberg falling behind with a hurdle left!

Mondouiboy is contesting, as is The Passing Wife and Johnnys Jury…

Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Doctor Steinberg in the lead as they pass the halfway point, with six hurdles to go.

Three of those are in quick succession, with the leader emerging from all three unscathed so far.

Swindon Village is leading the chasing pack but there’s very little in it to Mondouiboy in third.

Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Doctor Steinberg in front over the first hurdle, and he begins to pull in front with seven hurdles left. Plenty of time to go though!

Swindon Village still in second, with almost a length to third.
