A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police shooting in Burlington, Ont., that sent the man to the hospital, according to Halton police.
The man, 23, is also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a control substance, fentanyl.
At about 12:30 a.m. on March 8, officers were conducting a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Crestwood Motel on Plains Road E., when the man “drove toward officers,” the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a news release on Sunday.
A Halton police officer shot the man multiple times, said the SIU, which investigates police interactions that involve a death, serious injury or sexual assault. It said multiple investigators were looking into the shooting.
The man was taken to hospital but Halton police said on Thursday he has since been released and is in custody pending a bail hearing.
The SIU previously said a woman, who was a passenger in the car, was not injured.
