Police say a man was fatally shot in downtown Kamloops early Wednesday morning.
Emmanual (Manny) Brooks died in a hospital after the shooting near a 7-Eleven store on Seymour Street, according to Kamloops RCMP.
They say police responded to reports of gunfire around 4:30 a.m. PT Wednesday, and they believe the shooting was targeted.
Graeme Green, who lives nearby, told CBC News that he came to the 7-Eleven quite often, and he wasn’t surprised to see police there.

“They’re here because of the drug activity, criminal activity,” he said.
“What really scares me is that there’s so much public space around here. It’s such an open public area, right? And such a dangerous, horrific place for gunfire to occur,” he added.

Officers were at the scene throughout Wednesday morning, and RCMP say they’re releasing Brooks’s picture as they investigate his death.
Anyone with information about the shooting, or video footage from the area, is asked to call police.
