A year after a teenager died after sustaining gunshot wounds, Hamilton police are asking for those who have information to come forward.
Faizaan Awan, 16, was driving a red Acura in the area of Highway 8 and Fruitland Road in Stoney Creek at about 4:20 a.m. on March 6, 2025, police said in a news release Wednesday.
Officers found the Acura and a white Kia sedan had crashed just east of the intersection. Awan was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and later died in hospital.
“Police believe there are individuals who know what happened and why Faizaan Awan was targeted but have not yet come forward,” police said.
“Police have determined Awan was chased for several kilometres before the shooting.”
Multiple vehicles were involved in the chase, including a stolen silver Infiniti, police said.
It was involved in the collision and found nearby but other vehicles haven’t been located.
Two other passengers were in his car, police said. One of them sustained a minor gunshot wound and both have been interviewed.
Awan was from York Region, police said shortly after the shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
