The driver of a car involved in a collision with a school bus early Wednesday morning in North Sydney, N.S., was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In a news release, Cape Breton Regional Police said the vehicles collided near the intersection of Archibald Avenue and Pleasant Street around 8:45 a.m. 

Students were removed from the bus and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Archibald Avenue was closed to traffic while police investigated but it has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing, regional police said.
