The Mariners are acquiring right-handed reliever Jose Ferrer from the Washington Nationals for catching prospect Harry Ford and right-handed pitching prospect Isaac Lyon, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Saturday.
Andrew Golden of the Washington Post was first to report the news.
Ferrer, 25, recorded a 4.48 ERA with 71 strikeouts and 16 walks over 76.1 innings with the Nationals, picking up 11 saves while serving as the team’s closer after Washington dealt Kyle Finnegan to the Detroit Tigers at the 2025 trade deadline.
Ford, 22, was ranked as the Mariners’ No. 4 prospect by MLB Pipeline at the time of the trade.
Selected 12th overall in the first round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Ford hit for 16 home runs, 74 RBIs and a .283/.408/.460 slash line with triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.
Ford debuted with the Mariners on Sept. 5, but retained his status as a prospect, only appearing at the plate eight times in eight games. He recorded his first MLB hit on Sept. 27 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lyon, 21, was selected by the Mariners in the 10th round of the 2025 Draft and is yet to pitch professionally.
