Suryakumar Yadav-led India scripted history as they defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8. Having won in 2007 and 2024, they became the first team to win three titles. The victory was of utmost significance as no other team had won two consecutive T20 World Cup titles or at home.
The Men in Blue looked flawless in the final, piling up 255/5 after being asked to bat first by the Kiwis. Sanju Samson continued his golden touch, scoring 89 off 46 balls, comprising eight sixes and five boundaries. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan also dazzled with the bat, smashing 52 (21) and 54 (25). Later, Shivam Dube struck 26 not out off just eight deliveries, including two sixes and three fours. James Neesham took three wickets for the Black Caps.
In response, a clinical bowling display from Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel helped India bundle out New Zealand for 159 in 19 overs. Bumrah returned with stunning figures of 4/15, while Axar scalped three wickets. For the Kiwis, Tim Seifert and captain Mitchell Santner scored 52 (26) and 43 (25), respectively.

WI vs SL – 36 runs in 2012
West Indies have the second-largest win in the T20 World Cup final. They beat Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the 2012 final held in Colombo.
Batting first, WI put up 137/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Openers Chris Gayle and Johnson Charles departed for 3 and 0, respectively. Marlon Samuels starred with the bat, scoring 78 off 56 balls, comprising six maximums and three boundaries. Dwayne Bravo also chipped in with a run-a-ball 19. Skipper Darren Sammy gave the finishing touches, scoring an unbeaten 26 off 15. Ajantha Mendis emerged as the leading wicket-taker, returning with figures of 4/12.
In response, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 101. Skipper Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara were the two top-order batters who scored in double digits, returning with scores of 33 (36) and 22 (26), respectively. Sunil Narine emerged as the leading wicket-taker for WI, picking up three wickets while conceding only nine runs. Skipper Sammy also took two wickets.
IND vs SA – 7 runs
India beat South Africa by seven runs in the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Barbados. Batting first, the Men in Blue got off to a poor start, losing three wickets for 34. Virat Kohli top-scored with 76 runs off 59 balls, comprising two sixes and six boundaries. Axar Patel and Shivam Dube also played handy knocks, scoring 47 (31) and 27 (16), respectively. Later, they restricted SA to 169/8 as Hardik Pandya bagged three wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah also returned with two scalps apiece.
The Rohit Sharma-led side defended 26 runs in their last 24 deliveries when the Proteas had six wickets in their hands. Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock chipped in with 52 (27) and 39 (31) for South Africa.
IND vs PAK – 5 runs
MS Dhoni-led India beat Pakistan in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup final in Johannesburg. Batting first, India put up 157/5 in 20 overs. Gautam Gambhir starred with the bat, scoring 75 off 54 balls, including two sixes and eight fours. Later, Rohit Sharma smashed an unbeaten 30 off 16 deliveries. Umar Gul picked up three wickets for the Men in Green.
In response, the Shoaib Malik-led side were bowled out for 152 in 19.3 overs. Imran Nazir gave a flying start, scoring 33 off 14. Younis Khan gave stability in the middle with a run-ball 24. Misbah-ul-Haq looked brilliant for his 43 off 38, but failed to score 12 in the last over by Joginder Sharma. Irfan Pathan and RP Singh took three wickets each for the Men in Blue.
