“Should’ve fired him sooner,” “He was never that good”: College hoops fans react to Damon Stoudamire getting fired by Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech fired Damon Stoudamire from his coaching role on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets finished last in the ACC this season, and they named Greg Gary as interim head coach in the midst of searching for a permanent replacement.
When fans found out that Georgia Tech had fired Stoudamire, they had some wild reactions.
“Honestly, they should’ve fired him sooner. Georgia Tech deserves better,” one tweeted.
“He was never that good,” another added.
“Tech admitting UGA is the best basketball and football team in Georgia,” a third commented.

Due to its last-place finish in the conference, Georgia Tech did not earn a spot in the 2026 ACC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets lost 12 straight games to close out the season.

A look at Damon Stoudamire’s coaching record at Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech hired Damon Stoudamire in March 2023. He coached at the school for three seasons, compiling a 42-55 record.
In his first season, Stoudamire led Georgia Tech to a 14-18 record, which included a notable early-season upset of No. 7 Duke. In the 2024-25 season, the Yellow Jackets finished with a 17-17 record.
