Woman extradited from Jamaica to face murder rap for 2024 killing

A 43-year-old woman has now been charged in the murder of a man in North York 18 months ago after she was nabbed in Jamaica and extradited to Canada.

Toronto Police say the accused is one of two suspects who have been sought for the deadly shooting at a plaza on the northwest corner of Jane St. and Lawrence Ave. W. on Sept. 30, 2024.

Officers responded to the shooting just before 7:30 a.m. on that day and located a man who had been gunned down.

The victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was later identified as 42-year-old Anthony McBean.

Homicide investigators subsequently identified two suspects believed to be responsible for the Toronto man’s killing, then released the identities and images of the wanted man and woman in November 2024.

At that time, police said it was believed both suspects may have fled to Jamaica.

But on Saturday police revealed that the wanted woman is now in custody and back on Canadian soil.

Debbie Jones, 43, of Toronto, was extradited from Kingston, Jamaica, and returned to Canada on Friday where she has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, police said.

She was expected to appear for a bail hearing in a Toronto courtroom on Saturday.

Second suspect still believed to be in Jamaica

“The second wanted party in relation to this homicide, Ricardo Manuel Bailey, 37, remains wanted for second-degree murder,” police said.

Investigators believe the wanted man is in Jamaica.

He’s described as having a thin build and a shaved head.
