“Can I please get out of Lunaris Temple Jail”: PoE Players face back-to-back rollbacks in 3.28 League-start
Path of Exile’s 3.28 update is now live, and the new League start brought in over 200K players. Naturally, the large number of players is also causing server stability issues, leading to multiple rollbacks. This isn’t something new, and if you’ve tried previous Leagues, then you know how common server rollbacks are with every new League.
It’s also one of the reasons why players try to rush the campaign as quickly as possible. A server rollback can lead to the loss of progression, meaning back to the queue and possibly a redo of the same boss fight in Path of Exile. And if you’re not fast enough, then you may get stuck there for a while.
Usual suspect for historical Path of Exile crashes also in the mix with 3.28 rollbacks

So what’s causing the rollbacks for PoE 3.28? At the moment, Grinding Gear Games hasn’t shared the reason, apart from reassuring players that the server stability issues are being investigated. However, if I had to guess, one reason may be the new microtransactions causing a metadata error in PoE.

Before the rollbacks, players were facing random crashes due to the Apprentice Magus Tome attachment. It happened when the players teleported to their respective hubs, and others had the microtransaction equipped in the area. GGG quickly disabled the attachment along with the Triumphant Liege Helmet attachment and Celestial Dominating Blow microtransaction.
Fixing the issue may be causing these rollbacks, but take my word with a grain of salt. With so many players logging in to Path of Exile simultaneously across all platforms, there could be multiple other issues. While frustrating, it is a little funny that players are stuck running the same area multiple times, especially for those without a waypoint.

With multiple rollbacks minutes after one another, one player was begging GGG to let them out of Lunaris Temple Jail. Apparently, the player cleared out the area to reach Piety, only for the server to go down within a few seconds of the boss fight, leading to another run of the area and a repeat boss fight, and facing the same issue again.
I was also the victim of a server rollback in Path of Exile during the Merveil fight, as I had to run through and fight the boss twice, only to get kicked out mid-fight both times. Many others shared a similar sentiment across different areas of the campaign.
The question remains: can you do anything to prevent the rollbacks? Unfortunately, no. These are done from the server side and aren’t an issue you can resolve on your system. Things should be better now that the devs have disabled problematic microtransactions, but the early few hours of PoE League start are usually chaotic.
