Jets trade Luke Schenn, Logan Stanley to Sabres

In exchange, the Jets are receiving forward prospect Isak Rosen, defenceman Jacob Bryson, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick, which will be the better of Buffalo’s and Edmonton’s selections.

Winnipeg will also be retaining 50 per cent of Schenn’s salary.

It’s the second straight year Schenn has moved ahead of the trade deadline after he was acquired by the Jets from the Penguins one year ago.

Stanley, meanwhile, leaves the only team he’s ever known in the deal.

Schenn, 36, is a defensive defenceman, but his ice time has dropped this season, and he has been a healthy scratch at times. He has posted a goal and six assists in 46 contests while logging 138 hits and 54 blocks for the Jets this season.

The right-shot blue-liner is in the final year of a three-year deal with an average-annual value of $2.75 million.

Stanley, from Waterloo, Ont., was drafted by Winnipeg as the 18th overall pick in 2016 and made his debut for the team during the 2020-21 season.

He is in the midst of a career-best offensive season with highs in goals (nine) and points (21). Stanley also has 96 hits and will be a free agent at the end of the season. He carries a $1.25 AAV.

The Jets have disappointed after winning the Presidents’ Trophy last year, and now recoup assets for a pair of expiring contracts as they look to the future.

Rosen, 22, is a left-shot winger who has split time between the AHL and NHL this season. In 16 games with the Sabres, he had three goals and four assists. Across 37 games with the AHL Rochester, he had 25 goals and 18 assists.

Bryson, 28, is a pending unrestricted free agent who has two goals, three assists and a minus-1 rating in 35 NHL games with Buffalo.

He was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 draft by the Sabres and has spent parts of the last six seasons with the team.
