Capitals trade forward Nic Dowd to Golden Knights

Nic Dowd was dealt to the Golden Knights on Thursday for goalie Jesper Vikman, a third-round pick in 2027 and a second-round pick in 2029, the teams announced.

Dowd, 35, has four goals and 12 assists in 55 games in his eighth season in Washington. He comes with a $3 million cap hit and has one year left on his deal.

The Huntsville, Ala., native was selected in the seventh round of the 2009 draft, 198th overall. He has 192 points in his 637 career games.

Vikman, 23, was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 draft by the Golden Knights.

The Swede has yet to make his NHL debut. He holds an .866 save percentage and 3.41 goals-against average in 18 games with the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights on the season.

Washington sits four points out of a wild-card spot and six points out of a division playoff berth. Vegas leads the Pacific Division by one point.
