Abhishek Sharma again perishes cheaply to an off-spinner in IND vs ENG T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal [Watch]

Team India star Abhishek Sharma failed to get going once again in the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal. The game is being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 5.

England won the toss and asked India to bat first. Abhishek Sharma got a couple of boundaries early on and looked good. However, he fell into the trap of an off-spinner yet again. On the last ball of the second over, Will Jacks bowled a slower delivery that drifted inwards.

Abhishek was tempted to go for the big shot and went down the track to play an aerial flick. However, he failed to connect well as it came from the bottom of the bat. Phil Salt completed an easy catch coming in from deep midwicket.

Hence, the left-hander perished cheaply once again to an off-spinner, which has been the story of the T20 World Cup 2026 for him.

Eventually, Abishek Sharma made just nine runs off seven balls with two boundaries at a strike rate of 128.57. In a crucial game, he failed to get going, as the team would have expected him to do.

Abhishek Sharma’s poor run continues

It has been a disastrous T20 World Cup for Abhishek Sharma, whose poor run continued against England here in the semifinal. Barring the lone half-century against Zimbabwe, he has been ordinary in the tournament so far.

He has not even scored 100 runs in the tournament, managing to make just 89 runs from seven games at an average of 12.71 and a strike rate of 130.88.

With Sanju Samson doing well at the other end, it was an opportunity for Abhishek Sharma to take his time out in the middle on a good batting wicket at the Wankhede. He would be disappointed with himself for having missed out on an opportunity to score big and regain his form.

His poor form at the top continues to be a matter of huge concern for the Men in Blue. While Abhishek was in sensational form coming into the tournament, it has been a completely contrasting run for him.
