Stefon Diggs’ tenure in Foxboro is over before it can truly begin.
On Wednesday, the New England Patriots announced that they would be releasing the multiple-time All-Pro/Pro Bowl wide receiver at the start of the new league year. He had signed with them for three years and $63.5 million during the previous offseason:

In what will become his sole season as a Patriot, Diggs caught 102 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns and helped the team reach the Super Bowl for the first time in the post-Bill Belichick era. He also expanded his off-field profile with his relationship with rapper Cardi B, with whom he welcomed a son in November 2025.
However, he has been a source of controversy lately. Last month, he pleaded not guilty to assaulting his then-personal chef in December. Cardi B also broke up with him some days before the Patriots lost at the Super Bowl, and she purportedly condemned him at a concert in San Francisco last Friday:
“You can’t be out here playing with a b**** like me. There’s n***** out here praying for a b**** like me. You hear me? I’m too sexy to be lonely and too grown to be played with. You ain’t never had a bad b**** like this, n****. Never in your motherf***** life! None of them b****** ain’t f***** with me!”

The question now looms: which teams should cover Stefon Diggs‘ talents? CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo has five suitors in mind.
The first is the Washington Commanders, who are set to lose Deebo Samuel in free agency. Three others are also set to enter free agency, including Noah Brown.
Meanwhile, over on the West Coast, the San Francisco 49ers will see Jauan Jennings and Kendrick Bourne hit free agency. Brandon Aiyuk is also expected to depart after his contract was voided late in the season.
Back in the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens are facing free-agency departures for DeAndre Hopkins and Tylan Wallace. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans could use more aerial firepower.
