Commanders re-sign defensive linemen Tuttle, Wise

The Commanders are maintaining some consistency on the defensive line. The franchise agreed to sign defensive linemen Deatrich Wise and Shy Tuttle to one-year deals, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

The exact financial terms of the contracts were not released on Wednesday.

Wise, 31, joined the Commanders last offseason after starting his career with the New England Patriots, recording 34 sacks across eight seasons. His first campaign with the Commanders was cut short when he suffered a season-ending quad injury in Week 2.

The Commanders claimed Tuttle off waivers from the Tennessee Titans in December. He played two games with Washington, notching four tackles.

In a seven-season career that has also featured stints with the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers, Tuttle has accumulated 247 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks as an interior lineman.

Wise and Tuttle will rejoin fellow Commanders Javon Kinlaw, Dorance Armstrong and Daron Payne on Washington’s defensive line.

Commanders general manager Adam Peters said he was not negotiating a new deal with Payne, who is entering the final year of his contract. The team is not releasing the former first-rounder either, instead allowing him to play out the remainder of his deal.
