Glenn Phillips drops a skier from David Miller in SA vs NZ T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal [Watch]

New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips dropped a skier to hand David Miller a reprieve in their T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal game against South Africa. The contest is being played on Wednesday, March 4, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

On the first ball of the 10th over of the Proteas’ innings, Rachin Ravindra bowled a full delivery outside off. Miller went for a big shot but couldn’t connect cleanly, as the ball went towards the left of deep extra cover. Phillips ran across and got under it but ended up fumbling the catch as he tried to jump at the last moment.

However, Miller failed to capitalise on the lifeline, falling on the final ball of the over for a run-a-ball six, with Daryl Mitchell taking a comfortable catch at long-off.

Marco Jansen’s stunning unbeaten fifty helps SA post 169 on the board

Put into bat first, South Africa endured a disappointing start as Cole McConchie dismissed Quinton de Kock (10) and Ryan Rickelton (0) in the second over. Skipper Aiden Markram and Dewald Brevis then added 43 runs off 35 balls for the third wicket before the former was dismissed for 18 by Rachin Ravindra. Brevis scored 34, while David Miller managed just six, as the Proteas lost half their side for 77.

Tristan Stubbs and Marco Jansen then steadied the innings, adding 73 runs off 47 balls for the sixth wicket. Stubbs made 29 off 24 balls, while Jansen remained unbeaten on 55 off 30 deliveries, hitting two fours and five sixes, as South Africa finished their 20 overs at 169/8.

Meanwhile, in reply, New Zealand’s opening pair of Tim Seifert and Finn Allen made a blazing start for the Kiwis. At the time of writing, they were 62/0 after five overs, needing 108 runs off 90 balls to win, with Seifert unbeaten on 41 and Allen on 21 at the crease.
