“Doesn’t feel like I was the Big Ten coach of the year”- Nebraska Volleyball team’s coach Dani Busboom Kelly gets real about major honor

Nebraska Volleyball team’s coach Dani Busboom Kelly credited her team after being recently named the Big Ten coach of the year. Busboom Kelly joined the Huskers program on January 29, 2025, after the legendary coach John Cook announced his retirement.
The Nebraska Volleyball team competed in its last faceoff of the 2025 regular season on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the John Cook Arena. They defeated the Ohio State Volleyball team with a dominating lead of 3-0, which they earned by posting a sweep of 25-16, 25-13, 25-20. With this feat, they recorded an unbeaten streak of 30 wins.
This is Busboom Kelly’s first season with the Huskers as the head coach. After considering her remarkable mentorship, she was honored with the Big Ten coach of the year award.
However, in an interview with Hail Varsity, she attributed the honor to the whole coaching staff. She also highlighted the legacy left by the former coach, John Cook.
“There’s obviously…it’s not really an individual award. I know it says it is, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it this year. So, with the staff and the job they’ve done, and you know, John leaving a great team and at a time when he knew that we could be really successful, it just means a lot, but it really doesn’t feel like I was the Big 10 coach of the year. It feels like the Big 10 staff or um group of the year, whatever you want to call it. what seems like this team’s.” (2:30 onwards)
Busboom Kelly has also served as an assistant coach for the Huskers, while leading them to the 2015 Championships.
