Officials are trying to determine what caused a fire in downtown Ayr that sent one person to hospital with non life-threatening injuries Monday morning.
Emergency crews were called to Northumberland Street around 9:15 a.m. for reports of a structure fire.
The building suffered “major damage,” said a release sent out by Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) on Monday afternoon.

Northumberland Street and Ayr Core remained closed for the rest of the day as emergency responders and investigators continued to work at the scene.
Members of the WRPS’s general investigations unit are assisting the Ontario Fire Marshal in determining the cause of the fire.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the WRPS or Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477 or online at www.waterloocrimestoppers.com.
